A motor contactor and overload relay inside a control panel — visually flawless. Under thermal imaging one connection is running at 102.6 °C, 37.8 °C hotter than the identical phase beside it. Under NETA criteria any rise above 15 °C over a similar component is a major discrepancy: repair immediately.

Building Water Leak Detection Using Thermal Imaging

Thermal imaging is an effective and non-invasive method for detecting water leaks in buildings. Infrared (IR) cameras identify temperature variations caused by moisture accumulation, allowing our certified thermographers (ISO 18436-7) to locate leaks hidden behind walls, ceilings, floors, and roofs without destructive testing. Water leaks often cause cooler or warmer temperature patterns compared to surrounding dry areas, depending on the ambient conditions. Thermal cameras detect these anomalies, helping to pinpoint leaks from plumbing, HVAC systems, roofs, and foundation cracks.

This method is particularly useful for identifying leaks before visible damage, such as mould growth, structural deterioration, or paint discoloration, appears. Compared to traditional leak detection methods, thermal imaging is faster, more accurate, and minimises guesswork. Steam Trap Leak Testing

Unlike traditional methods (e.g., temperature checks), ultrasound testing is non-intrusive, allowing real-time inspection without system shutdown.

Our certified ultrasound technicians scan traps with handheld ultrasonic devices, trained to distinguish leak signatures from background noise. This method detects even minor leaks early, enabling predictive maintenance and reducing energy consumption. Fugitive Emissions Survey — Optical Gas Imaging

Fugitive emission surveys using optical gas imaging (OGI) thermal cameras are an essential tool for detecting leaks in industrial facilities, particularly in the oil and gas, chemical, and petrochemical sectors. OGI cameras detect the infrared absorption of hydrocarbon and other gases, allowing our certified thermographers to quickly identify and locate leaks in pipelines, valves, flanges, tanks, and other equipment.

Compared to handheld gas detectors or sniffers, OGI surveys are faster, more efficient, and capable of scanning large areas in real time without direct contact. Highpoint Solutions use OGI cameras to detect various gases, including methane, propane, butane, and volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Regular fugitive emission surveys help companies minimise product losses, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and enhance workplace safety.

Ultrasound Surveys for Compressed Air Leak Detection

Compressed air is a critical utility in manufacturing, but leaks can lead to significant energy waste, increased operational costs, and reduced system efficiency. Airborne ultrasound detectors identify leaks by capturing high-frequency sounds produced when pressurised air escapes through small openings in pipes, hoses, valves, and fittings — quickly and accurately, even in noisy industrial environments, without system shutdowns.

High Pressure and Low Pressure Steam Leaks

Airborne ultrasound is a highly effective method for detecting both high-pressure and low-pressure steam leaks in industrial facilities. Ultrasound detectors capture high-frequency sounds produced when steam escapes through leaks in pipes, valves, flanges, steam traps, and other system components — pinpointing leaks even in noisy environments and before they become critical, with no system shutdown required.

High-pressure steam leaks pose serious safety hazards, including burns and equipment failure, while low-pressure leaks contribute to reduced system efficiency and energy waste. Implementing a regular ultrasound-based steam leak detection program helps industrial facilities enhance safety, optimise energy efficiency, and maintain reliable steam system operation.

Air Tightness Testing (Acoustic Emissions)

Airborne ultrasound detects air leaks by capturing high-frequency sound waves produced when air escapes through gaps, cracks, or poorly sealed areas in walls, doors, windows, ducts, and enclosures. By using an ultrasonic transmitter inside a building or enclosure, inspectors can identify weak points in the structure's sealing from the outside, without invasive testing.

In manufacturing, air tightness is critical for processes requiring contamination control, such as cleanrooms, pharmaceutical production, and electronics manufacturing. Compared to traditional smoke or pressure testing, ultrasound provides a faster, non-destructive, and cost-effective approach.

Electro-Acoustic Water Leak Detection

Electro-acoustic listening equipment is widely used for detecting and pinpointing underground pipe leaks by capturing and analysing the sound of escaping water. Highly sensitive ground microphones, acoustic sensors and digital amplifiers let our technicians listen for leak-related noises, which have distinct frequencies depending on pipe material, pressure, and surrounding conditions.

When no off-the-shelf tool could show a client where a silo shell was thinning, we wrote our own. SiloMap takes the thickness readings our rope access team records on the drop and maps them onto a colour-coded 3D model of the asset — the same way thermography turns temperature into a picture.

  • Five views of one survey. 3D shell referenced to true north, 360° developed map, plan view, a profile for every drop and a sortable data table — every figure stamped with bearing, elevation, scale and date.
  • Built on the real shell. Each strake keeps its own nominal and material, so loss is measured against the right plate; cones, hoppers, dished heads and horizontal vessels are modelled, not approximated.
  • Landmarks, not bearings. A finding reads "between the manhole and the davit crane", because that is how your maintenance crew will find it.
  • Honest about coverage. Colour between readings illustrates the measured points; the map shows the shell actually measured and hatches the rest.
  • A viewer, not just a PDF. Clients receive a single read-only file that opens on any locked-down laptop or tablet, offline, with no install — rotate the model, filter the table, check any reading.
