Ultrasonic thickness testing on an elevated pipe rack

Sector
Industrial
Location
Queensland
Access
IRATA rope access
Duration

~10 days

The problem

A corrosion management program required wall-thickness readings across an elevated process pipe rack. Conventional access meant scaffold design, erection and dismantling around live plant — roughly two weeks before a single reading.

What we did

An IRATA-supervised crew rigged from the rack structure and completed the UTT survey at every designated test location, with corrosion mapping on the worst-affected spools. Readings were logged against the client's asset register and issued the following business day.

The outcome

Full survey delivered in two shifts with no shutdown and no scaffold. Two spools flagged below minimum allowable thickness and scheduled for replacement in the next outage.
